Understand Your Kundali Matching Results

Kundali matching, also called Kundli Milan or horoscope matching, is a traditional astrological method used to compare two birth charts before marriage. Guna Milan is one part of this comparison: it assigns points across eight categories, with a maximum total of 36.

APZOK helps you explore this traditional comparison using both partners’ dates, times and places of birth. You can view the individual Koota scores, read their explanations and download a free PDF report with further chart details. Understanding how the total is formed is more useful than looking at the final number alone.

What Are the 36 Gunas in Kundali Matching?

The Ashtakoota system has eight scoring categories. Each category has a different maximum, and the individual scores add up to 36. APZOK shows the points received alongside the maximum for each category.

Koota | Maximum points | What this calculator compares
Varna | 1 | Traditional categories derived from the Moon signs.
Vashya | 2 | Categories assigned from the Moon’s position in the zodiac.
Tara | 3 | Birth-star distances counted in both directions.
Yoni | 4 | Traditional animal symbols assigned to the birth stars.
Graha Maitri | 5 | The selected friendship rules for the Moon-sign lords.
Gana | 6 | Traditional groups associated with the birth stars.
Bhakoot | 7 | The relative positions of the two Moon signs.
Nadi | 8 | Nadi groups associated with the birth stars.
Total | 36 | The sum of the eight individual scores.

These categories belong to an astrological tradition. They are not measurements of personal worth, consent, health or a couple’s ability to build a relationship.

How to Read Your Guna Milan Score

A result such as 28 out of 36 means the selected scoring rules awarded 28 points across the eight Kootas. It does not mean the couple has a measured 78% chance of a successful marriage.

Start by reviewing the individual scores. Two couples can receive the same total while having different Koota results. For example, 28 points could come from full scores in the first seven categories and zero in Nadi, but another combination can also produce 28. The detailed breakdown explains the difference.

The strengths and discussion sections help you identify which categories received full points and which need closer reading under this method. Consider the report alongside mutual respect, communication, consent, family expectations and shared plans for married life.

Manglik Dosha and the Birth Charts in Your Report

The PDF includes a Manglik, or Kuja Dosha, comparison and both partners’ Lagna (D1) and Navamsa (D9) charts. These provide additional astrological detail beyond the Guna total.

APZOK’s primary Manglik check examines Mars in houses 1, 2, 4, 7, 8 and 12 from Lagna. The report also lists checks from the Moon and Venus separately. Other traditions may use different rules or exceptions, so a Manglik label should be read with its stated method.

The report also includes Nadi and Bhakoot checks and optional traditional remedies or pooja suggestions where relevant. These suggestions do not change the calculated score or guarantee an outcome.
